Gateshead FC (Home) Preview 25-01-2014

Gateshead will make the long journey down to the Amlin stadium this weekend looking to extend their unbeaten run of eight league games that stretches back to before Christmas. The Wings have got 2014 off to a flyer, adding ten points to their tally so far and knocking in twelve goals in the process.

The Wings currently occupy fourth position, and have strengthened their squad since the turn of the year, displaying their intentions to really push on after finding themselves in with a shout of promotion going into the second half of the campaign. Former Sunderland and Burnley striker Ryan Noble has joined the Wings until the end of the season, and is expected to make an appearance this weekend. Having also spent time on loan at Derby County and Hartlepool United, the 22year old front man brings a wealth of experience for his age, and can play out wide as well as up front. Gary Mills has also added attacking midfielder JJ O’Donnell from title-chasers Luton Town on an initial one month loan.

Iron loan signing Barnard Mensah is still awaiting his home debut since joining from Watford. The striker did see some action at Woking after coming on as a substitute, but is yet to tread the Amlin turf due to postponements since his arrival.

Devonshire’s side currently sit in fourteenth place as they look to get back to league action, nine points adrift of Gateshead with five games in hand. The sides are yet to meet this term, but it is Braintree who have come out on top in recent contests, running out winners last season on both occasions by a single goal. The last meeting saw Sean Marks claim all three points, adding to a Dean Wells volley which had put Braintree ahead until the 85th minute. The Wings looked to have rescued something from the game when Ben Everson struck with just five minutes to play, but an instant reply from Marks saw the visiting Iron take all three points on the road.

This fixture will be a Category B match, priced as follows:

Seats: Adults £16, Concessions £11

Ground: Adults £15, OAPs £10, Under 18s £5, Under 11s £3

Both home and away fans are encouraged to check the club website ahead of this fixture with an early pitch inspection currently scheduled to take place at 10am on Friday morning.
